The Main Street Library is located in the center of the historic Newport News neighborhood of Hilton Village. Built as a replacement for a small, overcrowded facility, the new library was designed to serve not only as the main southern branch of the City’s library system, but also as a focal point for the entire Hilton neighborhood. In fact, the new library fills a void originally intended for a municipal structure and village square in the 1917 village master plan.
